Influences

I'm inspired by the rougher parts of a city - the infrastructure that gets rusty and wet, the places forgotten where concrete, steel, and nature meet. Harbors, train stations, public spaces - I love how people find a way to grow and prosper in life and love in some harsh conditions, with odds stacked against them. I love the joys of serendipitous discovery in our cities - sometimes improbable, impossible events. I love when retail, food and beverage, and other architectural programs get mixed together in blended, heterogeneous spaces. I also love mankind's variety of cultures, and how we respond to crises such as war, natural disaster, and poverty with equally dramatic and powerful responses through the arts, food, music, architecture, and so on. Having grown up in America, I can't deny my fascination with speed - going fast is an addiction here, and that energy is something I like to try and capture, even in static spaces - trying to stretch time and space a bit.
